Volume 107- November 15, Notes
Having a conversation with Tony Garcia is like having a conversation with a compadre. Tony was very inviting and very down to earth. We met just a day before we had the conversation and I felt as if I knew him for many years.
We laughed a lot as we made fun of many of the people we admire, Jorge Huerta, mainly. All was done in good fun though.
This conversation was a very good historical conversation, talking about how SU TEATRO started, along with the other two major Chicano Theatre Companies that began back in the 60s: Teatro Campesion and Teatro de la Esperanza.
I have to say that this was very amazing to me, I mean, to stand before Tony, as one of the man who started it all and be able to talk to him one-on-one about what it means to create theatre and to continue the tradition many have fought for. This, my friends, was a great treat.
I know you will enjoy our chat.
And for our next episode, four artists talk about what it means to create theatre based on interviews, or better yet, “community based” theatre. What is it mean? What is the responsability? How do you shape the work? What do you use? How do you use it? Do you leave it intact or do you change it to fit your needs? All and many more other questions are tackle by for young artist, Ashley Lucas in her play ‘Doing Time: Through the Visiting Glass, Greg Ramos’ play Border Stories, Chris Ramirez’s Color Bonita, and Yours Truly’s play, Postcards from la Raza.
Join us next time… I know you want to hear what we have to say.
